Release Overview

The Solana token client’s Oct. 16, 2026 update let developers pass address-bearing objects straight into its associated token account helpers. NFA. The change arrived in SPL Token JS client 0.18.0. Solana Program, the organization that hosts the SPL Token repository, developed the library. The package appears on npm under the name @solana-program/token.

Input Changes for Helpers

Release notes show the associated token account helpers gained support for address-bearing objects called HasAddress inputs. Developers could therefore pass a web3.js PublicKey directly without converting it to a base58 string first. The mint-to and transfer-to helpers widened their address and authority inputs to accept the same objects. The mint creation helper took matching objects for its mint and freeze authorities.

Program Address Default

A custom token program address became the default setting for the hand-written helpers. This adjustment brought the hand-written helpers into line with the generated client. The update focused on consistency across the tooling set.

Developer Workflow Impact

Developers working with Solana token accounts previously handled manual conversions for address objects. The Oct. 16, 2026 release removed that step for the listed helpers. The change applied to address and authority parameters across mint, transfer, and creation functions. Hand-written code now follows the same input pattern used by the generated client.

Scope of the Update

The release notes and change documentation outline support limited to the associated token account helpers. No other sections of the library received alterations in this version. The organization maintained separate handling for the hand-written and generated portions until this alignment. The package continues to serve as the classic SPL Token client library.

Documentation Sources

Details come from the SPL Token JS client 0.18.0 release notes and the related change page. Both sources confirm the HasAddress feature addition and the widened inputs. The package file verifies the npm publication name. Solana Program remains listed as the hosting organization for the repository.

The Oct. 16, 2026 release addressed input handling in a targeted manner. Developers gain the ability to supply address objects without extra conversion steps in the affected helpers. The alignment step ensures hand-written code matches the generated client behavior for those functions.
